Paper Excellence Canada has grown from a single mill to a multinational company producing 2.5 million tonnes of pulp and paper with over 2,500 employees. With seven mills in Canada and three in Europe, we are continuously investing in our mills and the communities in which we operate to ensure a long term strategic position in the industry.

One of our mills, Mackenzie Pulp Mill Corporation, is seeking a MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT to join the team. With close to 275 employees on a continuous operating schedule, the mill produces 235,000 tonnes ADMT (air dry metric tonnes) of bleached Kraft pulp annually.

Reporting to the Maintenance & Engineering Manager this position is a critical part of the reliability and maintenance plan for the Mackenzie Pulp Mill and is accountable to lead a mechanical maintenance team responsible for ensuring the reliability of plant equipment within the mill and the development and incorporation of maintenance best practices leading to world class maintenance results. The Superintendent will interface with Maintenance and Reliability Engineering, Maintenance Planning, and Production customers to ensure that plant efficiency is optimized without impact to safety, the environment, or the community.



  • Leading safety improvements and ensuring proper safety behaviours are exhibited by team members. Coaching and mentoring supervision and teams through practical visible leadership and high personal safety standards; being proactive in taking corrective action when necessary to address noncompliance issues.
  • Demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to engage team members and celebrate building a strong team in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ensuring coordination of all mechanical maintenance work for the facility through defined work management principals and engaging all Maintenance and Engineering personnel.
  • Participating in the development and improvement of work management systems that provide for effective and efficient work execution
  • Facilitating team adherence to work management systems in order to build effective executable schedules that meet asset reliability requirements while balancing the needs of production and reducing unscheduled work.
  • Monitoring and sharing KPIs to engage team in improvement initiatives and show the effectiveness of a structured reliability and maintenance organization.
  • Participating and promoting equipment improvement projects to realize the full potential of the assets
  • Ensuring that all work is carried out effectively and efficiently, on time, and on budget and in compliance with all safety policies and procedures, and that all work is of the highest quality.
  • Managing and maintaining mechanical shop infrastructure to ensure that all equipment and tooling that is required to complete work effectively and efficiently is procured, maintained, and calibrated as required.
  • Ensuring that collaboration and cooperation is fostered with work management personnel on a regular basis to ensure that equipment data, spares requirements, and PdPM procedures and documentation are modified as necessary as a result of additions, deletions or modifications to the plant processes or configuration and constructive feedback from field personnel carrying out the work.
  • Providing input on budget requirements for Mechanical Maintenance to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager and provide regular reports on Maintenance activities based on KPIs.
  • Working closely with the production team to ensure maintenance schedules and activities balance the production requirement.
  • Participating in planned outage scheduling and lead execution of activities in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Participating in the On Call rotation.
  • Other duties as required.



The ideal candidate will possess;

  • Professional Engineer designation (mechanical discipline preferred) OR,
  • Red Seal Interprovincial Journeyperson Certification


  • Minimum of 8-10 years' experience in mechanical maintenance supervision (fixed plant processing and piping preferred)
  • Planning and/or scheduling, or work management experience would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience with SAP would be considered an asset


  • Proven leadership capabilities
  • Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
